                                    AN ACT
 1   Amending the act of March 10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), entitled "An
 2      act relating to the public school system, including certain
 3      provisions applicable as well to private and parochial
 4      schools; amending, revising, consolidating and changing the
 5      laws relating thereto," in certification of teachers, further
 6      providing for career and technical instructional certificate.
 7      The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
 8   hereby enacts as follows:
 9      Section 1.    Section 1204.2(b) and (b.1) of the act of March
10   10, 1949 (P.L.30, No.14), known as the Public School Code of
11   1949, are amended by adding paragraphs and subsection (f) is
12   amended by adding a definition to read:
13      Section 1204.2.    Career and Technical Instructional
14   Certificate.--* * *
15      (b)   In addition to other requirements promulgated by the
16   State Board of Education, the Department of Education shall
17   issue a Career and Technical Intern Certificate under 22 Pa.
18   Code § 49.151 (relating to eligibility and criteria) to an
19   individual seeking a position with the primary responsibility of
 1   teaching occupational skills in State-approved career and
 2   technical education programs in the public schools of this
 3   Commonwealth if the individual presents any of the following:
 4      * * *
 5      (5)   Evidence that a veteran has served in the United States
 6   Armed Forces for a minimum of eight thousand (8,000) hours,
 7   equivalent to four (4) years full-time, in the occupational area
 8   to be taught.
 9      (b.1)   In addition to other requirements promulgated by the
10   State Board of Education, the Department of Education shall
11   issue a Career and Technical Instructional I Certificate under
12   22 Pa. Code § 49.142 (relating to Career and Technical
13   Instructional I) to an individual seeking a position with the
14   primary responsibility of teaching occupational skills in State-
15   approved career and technical education programs in the public
16   schools of this Commonwealth if the individual presents any of
17   the following:

19      (5)   Evidence that a veteran has served in the United States
20   Armed Forces for a minimum of eight thousand (8,000) hours,
21   equivalent to four (4) years full-time, in the occupational area
22   to be taught.

24      (f)   As used in this section, the following words and phrases
25   shall have the meanings given to them in this subsection unless
26   the context clearly indicates otherwise:

28      "Veteran" shall mean an individual who:
29      (1)   served in the United States Armed Forces, including a
30   reserve component or National Guard; and

1      (2)   was discharged or released from that service under
2   conditions other than dishonorable.

4      Section 2.   This act shall take effect in 60 days.
