AN ACT
1 Designating the portion of Pennsylvania Route 51 from Segment
2 0280/Offset 0000 to Segment 0300/Offset 0570 in Whitehall
3 Borough, Allegheny County, as the Hon. Raymond T. Book
4 Memorial Highway.
5 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
6 hereby enacts as follows:
7 Section 1. Hon. Raymond T. Book Memorial Highway.
8 (a) Findings.--The General Assembly finds and declares as
9 follows:
10 (1) Born in Pittsburgh on February 14, 1925, Mr. Book
11 was the son of the late Raymond and Margaret Book.
12 (2) During World War II, Mr. Book served his country
13 with honor and was awarded numerous medals.
14 (3) After his honorable discharge, he attended Robert
15 Morris Business College and the University of Pittsburgh
16 before beginning his career with J&L Steel in 1948.
17 (4) He also worked in the real estate industry for more
18 than four decades.
19 (5) Mr. Book turned his attention to politics in 1980
1 when he was elected to serve on the Whitehall Borough
2 Council.
3 (6) In 1982, he became Representative Book upon his
4 election to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives.
5 (7) During his tenure as a legislator, he was a sponsor
6 of the Organ Donor Bill.
7 (8) After serving three consecutive terms in the House
8 of Representatives, he turned his attention to the real
9 estate industry and served as the Director of the Real Estate
10 Appeals Department before serving on the Pennsylvania Real
11 Estate Board for eight years.
12 (9) After his retirement, he continued to serve his
13 community by volunteering with Jefferson Hospital.
14 (b) Designation.--The portion of Pennsylvania Route 51 from
15 Segment 0280/Offset 0000 to Segment 0300/Offset 0570 in
16 Whitehall Borough, Allegheny County, is designated as the Hon.
17 Raymond T. Book Memorial Highway.
18 (c) Signs.--The Department of Transportation shall erect and
19 maintain appropriate signs displaying the name of the highway to
20 traffic in both directions on the highway.
21 Section 2. Effective date.
22 This act shall take effect in 60 days.
