AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, in registration of vehicles, further providing for
3 vehicles exempt from registration.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 1302(10) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
8 § 1302. Vehicles exempt from registration.
9 The following types of vehicles are exempt from registration:

11 (10) Any farm vehicle used exclusively upon a farm or
12 farms owned or operated by the owner of the vehicle, subject
13 to the following:
14 (i.1) Type A--Such a farm vehicle with a gross
15 vehicle weight rating not exceeding 10,000 pounds may be
16 driven upon highways only from sunrise to sunset and
17 between:
18 (A) Parts of one such farm.
1 (B) Such farms located not more than [50] 100
2 miles apart.
3 (C) Such farm or farms and a place of business
4 located within a radius of [50] 100 miles from such
5 farm or farms for the purpose of buying or selling
6 agricultural commodities or supplies.
7 (D) Such farm or farms and a place of business
8 located within a radius of [50] 100 miles from such
9 farm or farms for the purpose of repairing or
10 servicing of the farm vehicle or the trailer or
11 semitrailer being towed or hauled by the farm
12 vehicle.
13 (i.2) Type B--Such a farm vehicle with a gross
14 vehicle weight rating of greater than 10,000 pounds and
15 not exceeding 17,000 pounds may be driven upon highways
16 only from sunrise to sunset and between:
17 (A) Parts of one such farm.
18 (B) Such farms located not more than [25] 50
19 miles apart.
20 (C) Such farm or farms and a place of business
21 located within a radius of [25] 50 miles from such
22 farm or farms for the purpose of buying or selling
23 agricultural commodities or supplies.
24 (D) Such farm or farms and a place of business
25 located within a radius of [50] 100 miles from such
26 farm or farms for the purpose of repairing or
27 servicing of the farm vehicle or the trailer or
28 semitrailer being towed or hauled by the farm
29 vehicle.
30 (i.3) Type C--Such a farm vehicle which does qualify

1 as a motor carrier vehicle and which does not display a
2 currently valid certificate of inspection may be driven
3 upon highways only from sunrise to sunset and between:
4 (A) Parts of one such farm.
5 (B) Such farms located not more than [ten] 20
6 miles apart.
7 (C) Such farm or farms and a place of business
8 located within a radius of [ten] 20 miles from such
9 farm or farms for the purpose of buying or selling
10 agricultural commodities or supplies.
11 (D) Such farm or farms and a place of business
12 located within a radius of [25] 50 miles from such
13 farm or farms for the purpose of repairing or
14 servicing of the farm vehicle or the trailer or
15 semitrailer being towed or hauled by the farm
16 vehicle.
17 (i.4) Type D--Such a farm vehicle which does qualify
18 as a motor carrier vehicle and displays a currently valid
19 certificate of inspection may be driven without any
20 restriction as to time but may only be driven on highways
21 between:
22 (A) Parts of one such farm.
23 (B) Such farms located not more than [50] 100
24 miles apart.
25 (C) Such farm or farms and a place of business
26 located within a radius of [50] 100 miles from such
27 farm or farms for the purpose of buying or selling
28 agricultural commodities or supplies or for repairing
29 or servicing of the farm vehicle or the trailer or
30 semitrailer being towed or hauled by the farm

1 vehicle.
2 (iii) A biennial certificate of exemption shall be
3 required for a farm vehicle exempt under this paragraph.
4 (iv) The owner of the farm vehicle shall maintain
5 such minimum levels of liability insurance coverage on
6 the vehicle as are required to be maintained under
7 Chapter 17 (relating to financial responsibility) by
8 owners of registered motor vehicles. The owner shall
9 satisfy the requirements of this subparagraph if the
10 minimum amounts of liability insurance coverage for the
11 farm vehicle have been provided under farm liability
12 insurance coverage maintained generally by the owner.
13 Coverage prescribed in Subchapter B of Chapter 17 shall
14 not be required to be maintained or provided for the farm
15 vehicle.

17 Section 2. This act shall take effect in 60 days.
