AN ACT
1 Amending Title 75 (Vehicles) of the Pennsylvania Consolidated
2 Statutes, in registration of vehicles, further providing for
3 veteran plates and placard.
4 The General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania
5 hereby enacts as follows:
6 Section 1. Section 1342(a) of Title 75 of the Pennsylvania
7 Consolidated Statutes is amended to read:
8 § 1342. Veteran plates and placard.
9 (a) Severely disabled veteran plate.--
10 (1) On the application of a veteran whose service-
11 connected disability is certified at 100% by the service unit
12 of the armed forces in which the veteran served or by the
13 United States Veterans' Administration or who has a service-
14 connected disability of the type enumerated in section 1338
15 (relating to person with disability plate and placard), the
16 department shall issue a special registration plate
17 designating the vehicle as belonging to a severely disabled
18 veteran. The registration plate shall have a white
1 background, shall have blue numbers or letters as the
2 department may determine, shall have the words "disabled
3 veteran" in at least ten-point bold type inscribed in red at
4 the bottom of the plate and shall include the international
5 symbol for access for persons with disabilities. A special
6 registration plate issued to a veteran under this [section]
7 subsection may be used only on a passenger car or truck with
8 a registered gross weight of not more than 14,000 pounds. In
9 the case of a motorcycle, the department shall issue a decal
10 containing the international symbol for access for persons
11 with disabilities and the words "disabled veteran" for
12 display on the registration plate.
13 (2) The department shall provide, at no additional cost,
14 the option for a veteran to whom a special registration plate
15 or decal is issued under this subsection to a vehicle or
16 motorcycle, as applicable, to request a second special
17 registration plate or decal under this subsection to be
18 affixed to the front of the same vehicle or motorcycle.
