A RESOLUTION
1 Designating July 17, 2025, as "100th anniversary of American
2 Legion Baseball Day" in Pennsylvania.
3 WHEREAS, American Legion Baseball is one of the most
4 successful amateur sports leagues in the country, surviving
5 through World War II and other national tragedies; and
6 WHEREAS, Players between 13 and 19 years of age, in all 50
7 states and Canada, can compete in this league with the hopes of
8 eventually playing college or professional baseball; and
9 WHEREAS, By participating in American Legion Baseball,
10 players learn about teamwork, discipline, good sportsmanship and
11 leadership, encouraging today's youth to become tomorrow's
12 leaders; and
13 WHEREAS, The league awards more than $25,000 in college
14 scholarships to its players each year based off of their
15 character, leadership, scholarship and financial need; and
16 WHEREAS, Over the last 100 years, 82 former American Legion
1 Baseball players have been inducted into the Baseball Hall of
2 Fame; and
3 WHEREAS, The first American Legion Baseball World Series took
4 place in Philadelphia in 1926, including teams from 15 states;
5 and
6 WHEREAS, In 1982, Boyertown became the first American Legion
7 Baseball World Series Champion from Pennsylvania, and the team's
8 1987 win continues to be the second-most dominant championship
9 run in the league's history; and
10 WHEREAS, As of 2024, there are 305 American Legion Baseball
11 teams in Pennsylvania, which is the second-highest number of
12 teams compared to all states across the country; and
13 WHEREAS, It is important for all Pennsylvanians to recognize
14 the value of American Legion Baseball to this Commonwealth and
15 our nation's pastime; therefore be it
16 RESOLVED, That the House of Representatives designate July
17 17, 2025, as "100th anniversary of American Legion Baseball Day"
18 in Pennsylvania.
