HCR — Health Issues
Issues related to the following bills: S.1040: Drug Competition Enhancement Act - Prohibits product hopping which stifles generic and biosimilar competition to extend monopoly pricing. It explicitly defines and regulates these under the Federal Trade Commission S.1041: Affordable Prescriptions for Patients Act - Limits how brand-name drug companies use patents to block competition from cheaper biosimilar or generic versions of biologic drugs by reducing the number of patents drug companies can use to delay cheaper alternatives from entering the market - making medicines more affordable and accessible. A brand-name drug company could then only sue using up to 20 patents when a competitor applies to sell a biosimilar. S.1095: Stop Significant and Time-wasting Abuse Limiting Legitimate Innovation of New Generics (Stop STALLING) Act - Stops pharmaceutical companies from abusing the citizen petition process to file sham petitions to block or delay generic or biosimilar drug approvals. S.1096: Preserve Access to Affordable Generics and Biosimilars Act - Bans pay-to-delay or killer acquisitions. Brand name drug manufacturers cannot pay generic manufacturers to delay-to-market any competitive biosimilar or interchangeable biologic products. S.2276/HR 3269: ETHIC Act - A bill to address patent thickets. HR 7854: Medicines for the People Act - To amend the Public Health Service Act to establish a National Institute for Biomedical Research and Development, and for other purposes. S.4189: INSULIN Act - To reduce the price of insulin and provide for patient protections with respect to the cost of insulin. Additionally, issues related to an FTC settlement.
